A Christian Community is one of the two canonically recognized expressions of religious life within the Episcopal Church in the United States. It is an intentional community of members who share a common Rule of Life, a distinctive charism, and a commitment to mutual support and accountability often in the form of vows or promises.

Like traditional monastic communities, Christian Communities are shaped by rhythms of prayer, formation, simplicity, and service. Unlike residential monasteries or convents, most members live dispersed throughout their communities, gathering regularly in person and online while living their vocation in the places where God has already planted them.

This way of life allows clergy and lay people, single and married, young adults and elders, to embrace the depth of the monastic tradition while remaining fully engaged in family life, parish ministry, professional work, and service in the wider world.

Christian Communities come in many expressions and remind the Church that religious life is not defined by a particular location but by a wholehearted commitment to following Jesus Christ.
